WANNER, Alvin Henry - age 84, of Brigden passed away on Sunday April 13, 2008 at Bluewater Health, C.E.E. site, Petrolia. Son of the late Russell and Matilda (LaFond) Wanner. Beloved husband of Alice (Barnes) Wanner for 63 years. Loving father of Wayne (Susan Burkhart) Wanner of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Sharon (Jake) Lowen of Creston B.C.. Dear grandfather of Daryl Wanner and friend Krista of Edmonton, Alberta and Carol and Sarah Lowen of Vancouver Island. Dear brother of Allan (Lois) Wanner, Sarnia. Predeceased by sisters Pearl (Frank) Ruston and Lois (Willis) Stewardson and brother Lorne Wanner. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Alvin came to Brigden in 1954, owned and operated Wanner's Meat Market from 1954 to 1969. He went into partnership with Bill Shaw in the Village Market from 1977 to 1985. Alvin was a Brigden Village Trustee and Hydro Commissioner and member of OMEA from 1963 to 1978. He served as Past Chairman of Moore Township planning board and Committee of Adjustment and was a charter member of Brigden Optimist Club. As a Past Master of the Masonic Leopold Lodge #397, Brigden, 32 degree Mason, he was appointed Grand Stewart of The Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario in 1972. He was a director of the Moore Agricultural Society and President of Brigden Fair in 1988. Alvin was the founder and chairman of the Brigden and Area Senior Housing Association which was responsible for building a 20 apartment senior housing complex - called Brigden Park Place. He was a member of the Brigden United Church serving on all church boards and also served on the Brigden Community Credit Union Board for over 27 years. Friends will be received at STEADMAN BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, BRIGDEN on Thursday April 17, 2008 2-4 and 7-9pm with a Masonic service held at 6:45. Funeral service will be held at the Brigden United Church on Friday April 18, 2008 at 11:00am with Rev. Sandra Fogarty officiating. Interment Bear Creek Cemetery.
