HENNIGER, Ella Blanche, PhD. - On 16th March 2004 at Smiths Falls, Ontario. She was born on 24th August 1911, in Valleyfield, Quebec, the third child and only daughter of Erven and Bessie (Pineo) Hennigar. She married James Perry Henniger on 12 October 1935 in Upper Kennetcook, Nova Scotia. Theirs was a long, loving, and remarkable partnership. Perry died on 13 July 1990. She is survived by her brother Graham Hennigar of Hildon, Nova Scotia, her children Jim (Isabel Pilkington), Susan (Alen Clarke), Ross (Gay Carroll), and Martha; her grandchildren Peter (Glenda MacAlpine), Rachel (Billy Knapp) and Matthew Henniger, Perry (Kim Carnesale) and Sarah (Terry Goulah) Clarke, Michael (Catherine Link), and Jo (Glenn Rigby) Henniger, Ford Henniger; and her great grandchildren Jake Byrne, Colin and Grace Knapp, Ella and one yet unborn Rigby. She glorified in the arrival and nurturing of all her children, grandchildren and recently great grandchildren and often quoted her mother, "We're all a-worshipping at the baby". Raised in Halifax, she graduated from Dalhousie and taught elementary school. She moved to Smiths Falls on her marriage and, as well as raising her children, was Chairman of the local High School Board, a founder and active supporter of the Smiths Falls Little Theatre, and an executive board member of the Dominion Drama Festival. She gained an M.A. and, at 72, a PhD in English from Queen's University. And last, but not least, in 1999 caught that "6 lb." bass. "But if the while I think on thee dear friend, all losses are restored and sorrows end." (Shakespeare).
