CHERNEZKY, John April 10, 1924 - October 11, 2007 John Chernezky passed away peacefully on October 11, 2007 at the Bethany Care Centre at the age of 83 years. John was born in Mikolaiev, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He settled in Taber, Alberta and worked on a beet farm. He worked in Calgary for the Canadian Pacific Railroad from May 7, 1952 and retired July 1, 1987. John was a very active member and cantor at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Calgary up until he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in July 2003. He loved to fish, had a love for wildlife and the outdoors, travel, and was a fan of both the Calgary Stampeders and the Calgary Flames. He was a handyman who could fix and build anything. John married Maria (Mary) Spizky on February 16, 1952. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Rita (Bill) Irwin and Walter (Wally) Chernezky; his granddaughter, Jessica Irwin and great-granddaughter, Lily Dupuis all of Calgary. John is also survived by his brother, Mike (Jean) Chernezky, Edmonton; and his sisters, Lillian (Eric) Arctander, Calgary, and Emily Jones, Lethbridge. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Stephanie Irwin, and his brothers Walter and Nick. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (404 Meredith Road N.E.) with the Very Rev. Taras Krochak presiding.
