ST. LOUIS, James "Jim" Ballantine 72, a dentist, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004, in Shreveport, LA. Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Dr. James Ballantine St. Louis was born May 25, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., and was raised in Riverside, Ontario, Canada. Upon graduation from high school in Riverside, he headed south to Texas. He enrolled in the pre-dental program at Arlington State College, now UT-Arlington, and also participated in the ROTC program. After three years, he was accepted by Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas and graduated in 1957. Dr. St. Louis and family then moved to El Paso, where he served two years at Biggs Air Force Base as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. The family then moved to Fort Worth, where Dr. St. Louis practiced general dentistry for 45 years. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, excelling at both, and had a passion for cooking. For the past 25 years, Dr. St. Louis had resided at Possum Kingdom Lake in Graford, and it was there he was able to further indulge in his lifelong passion for fishing. His extended family consisted of the wildlife at his home. Caring for, feeding and loving these animals was something that came naturally to him. Dr. St. Louis was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Francis St. Louis; his mother, Jeanne Monroe; and stepfather, William C.Monroe. Survivors: Children, James B. St. Louis Jr. of Woonsocket, R.I., Susan Hagan and husband, Randy, of Cleburne and Cindy Wells and husband, David, of Fort Worth; brother, Francis St. Louis and wife, Sandy, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; sister, Ann Marie St. Louis of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Rhoni and Aubree Wells of Fort Worth; best buddy, Mike Ritchey; special companion, Gordita, his dog; nieces, Jan, Joyce, Joan and Jill; and a host of cousins and friends.
