Carlos B. Batista January 05, 1933 - October 07, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Lower Sackville) BATISTA, Carlos B. - 71, Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 7, 2004, in the VG Site, QEII, 8A floor. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, in January 1933, he was the son of Felicidade and the late Mario. He immigrated to Canada in 1969 and was later joined by his wife and daughter. He made Canada his home and worked hard to build a new life. His profession as a marine engineer took him all over the world. For many years he also worked as an engine fitter at Dartmouth Shipyards. He was one of the three founders of the "Portuguese Social Club" in Nova Scotia and spent many hours working for the Portuguese community. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful father and always willing to help his friends. Special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. James Fitzgerald, Dr. Fernandez, all the nurses at the Medical Day Unit (the VG Site, QEII, 4th Floor), and all the doctors and nurses of the 8th floor of the VG Site, QEII, for their professionalism and affection. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Maria Teresa; daughter, Ana Cristina (Peter), Montreal; half-brother, Fernando, Venezuela; his mother, Felicidade and stepfather, Manuel Brito, Portugal. He was predeceased by his father, Mario and stepmother, Silvina. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the QEII Foundation.
