MARTIN, IDA LOUISE (1907 - 2004) - Heaven rejoiced as Ida was welcomed at the Gates by her nine siblings, her many friends and family who went on before. Ida passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thanksgiving Day, October 11, 2004. She was brought up in the Sussex area in her young life, and became a telephone operator for the Westfield Exchange back in the 1930's, after which she moved to Saint John West, where she resided on Queen Street for many years. After her husband died she spent nine years in Hillcrest Village and following that, nine years in Seely's Lodge for Seniors in Martinon. Ida was a member of Charlotte St. Baptist Church, which amalgamated with two other churches to become Hillcrest Baptist in Saint John West. She taught Sunday School, sang in the Senior Choir, worked in the Mission Band and served on many boards and ministries of the church. She held a Dominion Life Membership of the United Baptist Women's Missionary Society. Ida is survived by one daughter Barbara Ida (Martin) Huskins and her husband, Sterling; two grandchildren: Dr. Bonnie Huskins and Dr. Michael Boudreau, of Fredericton and Allan Huskins and his wife Heather, of Saint John. Plus many wonderful nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Maude (Lockhart) Friars, brothers Leonard, Aubrey, Ora, Garfield, George, James and Russell, and sisters Vera (Parker) and Marguerite (Fanjoy). The body will be resting at Castle (Fallsview), 309 Lancaster Avenue (634-1701). Visiting hours on Tuesday October 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 476 Lancaster Ave. at 11:00 am on Wednesday October 13. There will be visiting from 10:00 to 10:50 prior to the service. A reception will follow with interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens afterward. Contributions will be gratefully received for Gideon Bibles, Hillcrest Baptist Church, or the organization of choice.
