Mr. Robert "Bob" Strang July 21, 1926 - October 20, 2004 Funeral arrangements by V J McGilivray Funeral Homes (Glace Bay) ROBERT “BOB” STRANG 1926 – 2004 GARDINER MINES It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Strang of Gardiner Mines. Robert passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Ambrose and Olevia (Mullins) Strang. Bob was a member of St. James Church, Gardiner Mines. He was employed as a sales representative and manager of C and G MacLeod’s, Charlotte Street, Sydney before operating his own business, R.W. Strang and Co., for ten years prior to his retirement. His friendly manner and love of conversation made him well suited to the work, making many friends throughout his career. He was well known in his lifelong home of Gardiner Mines for his dedication to the community, especially St. James Church, serving as president of the Ways and Means Committee. He was also known for his talent as a woodworker and took pleasure in making fine furniture for friends and family. Bob will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Isabel (Poulain), sons, Jim (Ruth), Howie Center, Ken, Halifax, Bill (Terry), Hamilton, daughter, Betty (Merrill) Carmichael, Westmount, six beloved grandchildren, Devon, Schoel, Nicole, Jeffrey, Ryan and Adam. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Donald, brothers, Jim, Lloyd, sisters, Sue, Helen, Margaret, Josephine and Florence. Visitation for Mr. Strang will be held Friday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday,10 a.m. in St. James Church, Gardiner Mines. Fr. Jim Oliver will be officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to St. James Parish Building Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
