Segundo Lopez Caneda July 07, 1923 - October 27, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) LOPEZ CANEDA, Segundo - 81, Herring Cove, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Rubiana, Spain, he was a son of the late Luis Lopez Prada and Dolores Caneda. Segundo served in the Spanish army as a medical doctor in Spain, then later in private practice for a total of 15 years prior to moving to Canada. Once in Canada, he served as an M.D. for the Canadian Coast Guard for a short while. He enjoyed horses and horseback riding. Segundo was a devoted parishioner of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Spryfield. He is survived by his loving wife, Lehte (Uuetoa) Lopez Caneda, Herring Cove; son, Oscar, Herring Cove; brothers, Jose "Pepe", Brazil; Ramon "Moncho", Spain; Nabor (Isabel), Spain; sister, Teresa, Spain; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Harold Uuetoa, Herring Cove. He was predeceased by a brother, Luis. A special thank you to ICU Unit 5.2, Unit 7.3 of the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, for the special care of Segundo and also to cancer specialist Dr. Holeness for his wisdom and guidance in very difficult times. Last, but not least, a special thank you to Dr. Terrance Higgins, Spryfield Medical Centre, for his years of excellent care of Segundo. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Spryfield. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, Dartmouth, Father John Mills officiating. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Spryfield, or a charity of choice.
