Shirley Francis Martin - March 08, 1927 - May 01, 2004 - 77, Halifax, passed away Saturday morning, May 1, 2004, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her family. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late George and Francis (Perks) Smith. She is survived by her son, Stephen (Jean) Martin, Lower Sackville; daughters, Linda (Bryan) Roe, Halifax; Nancy MacDougall, New Minas; granddaughters, Jennifer Roe (Thomas), Lantz; Julie Roe, Timberlea; Natalie and Jan MacDougall, New Minas; great-granddaughter, Madison MacDougall, New Minas; sisters, Mabel McDonnell, Windsor; Ruth Redden, Windsor; Marie Evans, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, George Francis Martin; brothers, Russell, Roy, Earl and Ralph; sisters, Blanche Mullins, Verna Fredericks, Pearl Collins, Edith Naugle and Elizabeth Lake; granddaughter, Tracey MacDougall. Shirley worked for many years at the Post Office located in Fader's Pharmacy on Coburg Road, Halifax, where she was well-known to many patrons. She was an avid bowler and for many years bowled at Fairlanes Bowling Alley, Halifax Shopping Centre, in "The Tuesday's Seniors League." She was a resident of Sir John Thompson Manor. A great joy in her life was her great-granddaughter, Madison. A generous, dedicated, loving mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes, Bayers Road. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. A memorial mass will be held in St. Agnes Catholic Church, Mumford Road, on Tuesday, May 4, at 10 a.m., Father Lloyd O'Neill officiating.
