Dorothy Kathryn Winter (née Martyn) - August 25, 1921 - June 27, 2004 - Passed away peacefully in Halifax on June 27, 2004. She was born in Moose Jaw, Sask., on August 25, 1921, a daughter of the late Oscar and Irene Martyn. After graduating from high school in Regina, she traveled to Newfoundland to visit her late uncle's family in 1942. While there she joined the Women's Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943. She served in Toronto, Winnipeg, Trenton and St. John's, NL. In December of 1943, while in training as a signals officer in Winnipeg, she and her husband Norman were married. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past December. She and her husband, upon retirement, traveled extensively, spending their winters in Arizona, and their summers in Ontario for 15 years. They moved to Halifax in 2001. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Norman; sons, Jim (Allana), Doug (Bonnie), Ken (Denyse), and Ian; sister, Mary Lou, Richmond, B.C.; seven grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place 2-7 p.m. Friday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Burial will take place at a later date in St. John's, NL. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Palliative Care Unit, QEII.
