Edward James Joseph Power ---- October 07, 1932 - July 25, 2004 ---- age 71, Dartmouth, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, after a brief illness with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Edward and Mary (Lilly) Power (Herring Cove). He is survived by wife, Barbara J. Near, Dartmouth; sons, Tom (Chris), Queensland; Joe (Kim Ferris), West Jeddore; Derek, Dartmouth; Frank (Naomi), Queensland; Lory (Bernadette Emberly), Dartmouth; daughters, Debbie (Charlie) Trueman, Dartmouth; Vicki (Wilfred) VanZeumeren, Fall River; Shelly (Jeff) Hyslop, Nine Mile River; Wendy (Jules) Senecal, Dartmouth; Rosalind (Raymond) Croscup, Sackville; sisters, Evelyn Hubley, Fall River; Agnes (Eric) Caines, Halifax; Margaret (Alan) Green, Halifax; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Joseph in infancy; daughter, Kim, and sister, Edna Robinson. Ted retired in 1987 after a career of over 38 years as Supervisor of Engineering and Works for the City of Halifax. He was known to be an adventurous man with a zest for life. He and Barbara spent many winters traveling and exploring the southern United States. At home he enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Queensland with family and friends. Ted's imagination was never ending and his love for a challenge was evident with each new construction project. He made friends with everyone he met and was always there to lend a hand when needed. Ted was as large in life as he was in stature and will be greatly missed by all. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in Port Wallace United Church Hall, 263 Waverley Rd., Dartmouth, where a memorial service will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Rev. Ivan Gregan officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Donations may be made to Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (earmarked for cancer research) in memory of Ted and Kim.
