MASON Muriel was born in the Head of Millstream on October 20th, 1930; she was the daughter of the late Murray and Eva (Parlee) Wright and the devoted wife of the late Gerald Mason for 47 years who passed away in 1995. Muriel moved to Newtown as a young bride at the age of 17 years and remained for 56 years where she and Gerald farmed and raised their family. Although busy raising their children she was always involved in the community and church activities. She was a longstanding member of the Newtown United Church, a member of the church choir and a Life member of the United Church Women for over 50 years, having joined at the young age of 23 years. In 2004 Muriel moved to Sussex into a neighborhood with exceptional people. Her lifelong passions were gardening, family and friends. She also enjoyed line dancing, excercising, Geri-fitness, walking and volunteering for the Sussex Tourism Center. All who knew her were touched by her faith, strength, courage, positive attitude, sense of humor and devotion to her family and many friends. She will be remembered by many for her smile and gentle, quiet presence. Muriel was the mother of four children: Gary Mason and his wife Susan of Newtown, Geraldine (Gerry) Latham and her husband Greg of Vancouver B.C., Carol Anne Scarrow and her husband Bill of Moncton, Dianah Madden and her husband Patrick of Smith Creek: sister of Archie Wright and his wife Ellen and Marcella Fauteux and her husband Bud both of Ontario: Muriel had several grandchildren and great grandchildren including: Scott Mason, Maggie Scarrow, Dawn Clifford, Mike Madden and his wife Sarah, Pamela Warren and her husband Ian, Alex Madden, Mark and Nicole Latham, Hailey Madden, Aiden Warren, Ava Warren, Lola Warren and Cody Vaughn; two favorite uncles, Hiram (Anne) and Lloyd (Catherine) Parlee of Norton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Muriel was predeceased by her brother, Andrew Wright. Mrs. Murel Cecilia Mason of 6 Chessvale Close Sussex, passed away peacefully at her home with her family at the bedside Thursday, July 31st, 2008 at the age of 77 years. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex, from where visitation was held. A Celebration of Muriel's life was held from St. John's United Church on August 5, 2008 with Rev. Doug Cosman officiating. The musical selections were: Here I am Lord, In the Garden and Softly and Tenderly. The soloist was Brad Fauteux, and the organist was Norma Lee Ricker. The Scripture Reading, The Lord is My Shepherd was offered by Muriel's daughter Dianah Madden and Ecclesiastes by her granddaughter Nicole Latham. The interment was in Newtown Baptist Cemetery, Newtown. The pallbearers were: Mark Latham, Mike Madden, Alex Madden, Scott Mason, Keith Hutchins and Bradley Fauteux.
