STAIRS, Eugene Ludlow of Harvey Station, NB passed away September 2, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Millinocket, Maine in 1927, he was a son of the late Ludlow and Alma (Corey) Stairs. For a number of years Eugene was employed with the Department of Transportation and later operated an apartment house in Harvey Station. He enjoyed gardening and attending the basketball games at Harvey High School. Eugene was a member of Cherry Mountain Masonic Lodge and the Harvey Curling Club. Eugene is survived by two sons, Brent Stairs (Mary) and Dale Stairs (Elva), both of Harvey Station, NB; his grandchildren, Becky Soffee (Joseph), Jeremy Stairs (Jenna Sappier), Jason Stairs, Elicia Stairs (little girl) (Jeremy Coburn), Andrew Stairs (Nicole), Kathy Dewar and Karen Phillips (Jaret); great grandchildren, Ethan and Aydon Stairs, Samuel and Benjamin Phillips, Emma and Livvy Dewar and Nicholas Soffee; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his canine companion, Oscar. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his wife, Lavilla (Grieve) Stairs and a son, Randall Stairs. Although there will be no visiting hours, family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral service to be held at St. Andrew's United Church of Canada, Route 3, Harvey Station on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Kay Clowater officiating. Interment will follow in Cherry Mountain Cemetery.
