NIEBOER, Lillian (Wilderman) (nee Evans) October 11, 1910 - August 14, 2008 Lillian Nieboer passed away quietly at the Beverly Centre on August 14, in Calgary less than two months short of her 98th birthday. Lillian was born on October 10, 1910 in Granum, Alberta, to Jack and Florence Evans. She grew up in Blackie, Alberta, attending schools in both Blackie and Calgary. Upon her return to Blackie, Lillian worked at the newly built Royal Bank, where she became acquainted with her first husband, Homer T. Wilderman. They were married on July 8, 1931. Together they made their home at "Old Glory Farm", on Highway 23, east of Blackie. At the time the farm was operated by Homer and his brother Ray as Wilderman Brothers. For the next thirty-five years Lillian was very much an active member of the Blackie, Brant and Herronton communities. The Occidental Chapter of Eastern Star was very rewarding to Lillian in the 1930's and early 1940's. It always held a special place in her heart. Lillian was a member for almost eighty years and received her seventy-five year jewel as well as a Lifetime Membership. The United Church, from CGIT to Presbytery, the Canadian Red Cross, and Home and School were other major interests. Homer experienced an extended illness in the early 1960's and passed away in Calgary on January 30, 1964. After Homer's passing, Lillian moved to Calgary where it was easier to fill her role as care giver for her parents, uncle, aunt, and close family friends. On November 24, 1972, at the age of sixty-two, Lillian married Fred Nieboer of Calgary, beginning a whole new chapter in her life. Lillian and Fred were fortunate to celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary in 1997. They spent their silver years with family, traveling and giving time to church and other interests. After Fred's passing in January of 1998, Lillian suffered a very debilitating stroke in May of 1999. Her uncompromising will to live and enjoy what life might bring her continued almost undiminished until her passing. Lillian leaves to mourn her maternal family, sons Walter H. (Heather) Wilderman and Wayne E. (Terry) Wilderman; grandchildren Mary Ellen (Brad) Hay, Stacy Wilderman, Warren (Jennifer) Wilderman, Erin (Chad) Niemans; also great-grandchildren Alexandra Hay, Emily Hay, Treyton Niemans, Chase Niemans, Bryson Niemans and Walker Wilderman. Extended family includes Walter (Shirley) Nieboer, Joanne Vankeimpema, Nell (Tom) Smith and Frank (Lou) Nieboer as well as their children and grandchildren. Lillian loved what life had to offer to her, people and places, as well as a love for reading and writing. She will be missed and remembered by those of us who knew her in life. A Memorial Service will be held at the High River United Church, High River, on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. In memory of Lillian, memorial contributions may be made to Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, No. 200, 119 - 14 Street S.E., Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1Z6.
