EDWARDS, Shirley Moore (nee Nettleton) Peacefully at home on Saturday, October 23, 2004, with her family at her side. Beloved wife of Glyn M. Edwards for 47 years. Dearest mother of Kerry (Denis Lauriault), Shelley (Brian Male), Lindsay and Douglas. Loving grandmother of Carly, Dana, Kelsey, Courtney and Nicholas. Shirley was born in Montreal as the only child of John W. and Ella Irene Nettleton (nee Moore) on March 12, 1927 and lived in Toronto in her formative years. She will be mourned by her cousins Tom (Audrey) and John (Violet) Nettleton and many nephews and nieces and their loving parents. Shirley studied Early Childhood Education at the University of Toronto (BA) and Art at Mount Allison. Shirley was adventurous throughout her life, spending two years teaching in London, England and touring Norway and other European countries before returning to work in a Toronto clinic caring for children disabled by cerebral palsy. After marrying Glyn and starting a family, for whom she made dresses and coats and gave exemplary care, the family moved to Ottawa. When the children were older, she spent time as a volunteer at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Subsequently, Shirley became a director of the River Parkway Preschool Centre and later was President of the Centre for many years. She received a Province of Ontario Award recognizing her 30+ years of volunteer service. She has been a champion of daycare for most of her life. She was an ardent cottager and pursued many interests including genealogy and bonsai. Special thanks for wonderful care are expressed to Dr. Louise Coulombe; the Wellness team: Diane, Anick, Charlie and Josette; the VON nurses: Shaelah and Bonnie; and the CCAC; Mary-Ellen Henniger. Thanks also go to the many friends who visited or sent flowers and caring wishes to Shirley during her illness. There will be a Memorial Service for Shirley at the First Unitarian Church at 30 Cleary Avenue on Friday, 29 October, 2004 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it was Shirley's wish that donations be made to the River Parkway Preschool Centre Building Fund at 30 Cleary Avenue.
