THOMAS THORGRIMUR HAFSTEIN SIGURDSON (“Tommy Goose”) Surrounded by family, Tom Sigurdson, 81, passed away peacefully at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008. Tom was born Nov. 14, 1926 in Keewatin, Ont. to Magnus and Margaret Sigurdson. He attended Keewatin Public School and graduated from Grade 13 at the high school in Kenora. In January, 1945, Thomas joined the Canadian Army and proudly served his country until his discharge the following November. Tom then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 and discovered what would become a lifelong passion for flying. He soon became a flight instructor and continued flying until February, 1957. After leaving the military altogether, Tom flew commercially in Northwestern Ontario, earning himself the nickname “Tommy Goose.” He continued to fly until 1981, later working at the Fort Frances Airport until 1992. Thomas is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kelly Sigurdson; grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Joshua, and Crystal Sigurdson; sister, Ingibjorg Phinney; and many, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Eloise Sigurdson (nee Sparks), in 1991; daughter, Sharon, in 1986; brothers, Herman and Krisjan; and sisters, Sylvia, Hilda, Runa, Margaret, and Thelma. Cremation will take place at Rainy River Cremation Services. By Tom’s request, no service will be held.
