BETTS, Walter George (Hank), "The World has lost an angel." Peacefully, after a brief illness, surrounded by family on October 13, 2004 at St. Catharines General Hospital in his 85th year. Hank is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carrie, two daught ers Carolyn Brenneman (Ron) and Becky Whitworth (Gerry). Hank is also survived by three grandchildren Jim, Taylor and Abby and many nieces and nephews. Hank is predeceased by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Hank had been an active member of t he Lions Club since 1982 with St. Davids and Port Dalhousie Lions. He was an active lifetime member of the St. Catharines Cribbage League and various local Lawn Bowling Clubs over the years. Hank was a St. Catharines Firefighter for 33 years and at t he time of his retirement in 1980 he was Senior Fire Prevention Officer. Hank served with the Royal Canadian Service Corp at Camp Borden during World War II. Hank touched everybody's lives that his path crossed. He was a gentle, loving family man and will be deeply, deeply missed. Thanks go to Dr. Velasquez and ICU nurse Judy for their caring and compassion at such a difficult time. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Memorial Service held on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Lung Association in Hank's memory.
