James SLOAN

James Sloan SACKVILLE, NB - The death of James Sloan, age 87, of Sackville, NB, occurred on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, he was a son of the late James and Margaret (Allan) Sloan. He served with the New Brunswick North Shore Regiment in England, France, Germany and Holland during World War II. Jim was a well respected businessman dealing in hay, fertilizer and pulpwood for most of his career. He also owned and operated Green Gables Dairy for many years. Jim faithfully attended Main Street Baptist Church and was a 60 year member of Branch 26 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He will be greatly missed by his dear friend, Helen Rowe of Amherst, NS; his daughter, Kathy (Allan) Pooley; and his son, Jim (Karen) Sloan of Sackville; grandchildren, Bethany (James) MacDonald of Moncton, Evan Pooley, Jimmy and Megan Sloan all of Sackville; brothers, Carl of Point de Bute, Edgar (Norma Hoy) of Oshawa, ON; sister-in-law, Hilda Ripley and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Marguerite; sister, Minnie Trenholm; brother, Bill; nephew, Gary Sloan; sister-in-law, Audrey Sloan and brotherin-law, Clifford Trenholm. Friends are invited to visit with Jim's family at Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) on Saturday, November 6, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at Main Street Baptist Church on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at 3 pm, Pastor Barry Todd officiating.
