ATHERTON, Frank M., Of Welland, at the Welland County General Hospital on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the age of 92 years, following a long and courageous battle with cancer which he would not allow to debilitate him. Mr. Atherton continued to work at his lathe in his shop just days before his death. Cherished husband for 65 years in 2003 to the late Mildred Atherton. Beloved father of James Atherton (Lois) of Ottawa and their seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Alan Atherton (P atricia) of Niagara and their four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Angus Atherton of Welland. Also predeceased by his parents James H. and Lillian Atherton and brothers James II and Donald. Born in Welland, Mr. Atherton re mained a lifelong resident of the community. He was a master woodworker noted for his wood turning expertise as president of Atherton Woodworking Ltd. and The Woodshop from 1922 to the present. Many of Welland's churches display his fine workmanship. Mr. Atherton assisted his wife Mildred for years with the Christmas charities for needy children. He was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Chapel of Pleasantview Memorial Gardens on Sat urday, November 13, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Welland Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be deeply appreciated by the family, with cards available at the H.L.
