Joan Barbara LEWIS January 29, 1939 - January 26, 2009 LEWIS Joan Barbara Lewis, age 69, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away on Monday, January 26th, 2009, at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, Alberta, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 29th, 1939, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Ned and Mae (Sawler) Carmichael. Joan was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Windsor Fire Department and was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Windsor. Joan’s great passion was her family. She loved to be in the company of her children and grandchildren, and was very proud of all their accomplishments. She had so many friends, we know she will be sadly missed by all those who loved her. Joan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian (Kim) Lewis, Calgary, Alberta; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (George) Thorne, Calgary, Alberta. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jocelyn and Brent Lewis; Sarah and Robert Kehoe; as well as her brother and wife, Carl (Marina) Carmichael, St. Croix, Nova Scotia, and their son, Jamie; sisters, Diane Kinsman, Edmonton, Alberta; Carol (Clarence) Arsenault, Lr. Sackville, Nova Scotia; Betty (Harley) Flynn, Hinton, Alberta; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ned and Mae (Sawler) Carmichael; Joan, was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Joseph Edmond “Eddie” Lewis (November 7th, 2000); brother, Donnie Carmichael; and her sister, Florence Dykens. The family wishes to thank all those who were so kind towards Joan during her illness. A special thanks to the Hemodialysis Unit Staff and the Medical Day Care Unit staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, as well as Dr. Sepandji and Dr. Bhalais. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 13th, 2009, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 14th, 2009, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
