Wilfred "Penny" Caines January 21, 1914 - November 13, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Lower Sackville) Caines, Wilfred “Penny”- 90, Middle Sackville, died November 13, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QE11, with his loving family by his side. Born in Great Jarvis, NL, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Meade) Caines. Wilfred was nicknamed “Penny” by granddaughter Melanie, the name by which he has since been affectionately known by all. Penny especially enjoyed being with his family, who were enriched by his laughter, quick wit and love of life. He will be greatly missed. He served during the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Navy. He had many jobs, his last being janitorial staff at Camp Hill Hospital. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church. Surviving are daughter, Betty Synette, Middle Sackville; sons, Lloyd, Seabright; John (Marlene), Surry, B.C.; Douglas ( Louise), Middle Sackville; sister, Olive MacDonald, Newfoundland; grandchildren, Melanie, Colin, David, Jon, Chris, Tim, Michelle, Mary, Michael, Stephen; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Trenton, Katlyn, Shane, Rebecca, Hannah; and best friend and nephew, John Organ, North Carolina. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Rosanna Wells; brothers, William, John, Harold; son-in-law, Lewis Synette. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Old Sackville Road, Archdeacon Ron Cutler officiating, assisted by Rev. Heather MacEachern. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Donations to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Red Cross Society or a charity of choice. Special thanks to all the doctors, care workers and others, for their tender, loving care of Dad.
