NEUFELD, Jacob G., Jacob (Jake) G. Neufeld, 86, of Reedley, California, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004. He was predeceased by his wife, Irmgard in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Camarillo and son Robert Neufeld and his wife Wendy and thre e grandchildren, Joey, Brooke and Katelyn. Predeceased by sisters Ann, Helen and brother George. Jake Neufeld was born in Hochfeld, Russia. In 1924, he immigrated to Canada with his parents, brother and 2 sisters. He farmed with his family in Niagara -on-the-Lake until 1956, was actively involved in the Niagara United Mennonite Church, and married Irmgard Guggenheimer in 1961. In 1965, they started their first greenhouse operation in St. Catharines and after their 1970 move to Reedley, California continued in the business. Jake was recognized within the industry as one of the most capable greenhouse cucumber and tomato growers in the state and nation. He was instrumental in starting the Western Greenhouse Vegetable Growers Association. He wa s active in Christ Lutheran Church, the Farm Bureau, and the Reedley Chamber of Commerce. Both he and his wife volunteered for the Reedley Police Department. Jake is remembered as a kind, thoughtful and considerate man both to the family and communit y.
