DOWNER, Gary Charles “Red“ - November 29, 1940 - January 25, 2009 - After a brief but courageous fight against an aggressive and relentless illness, our beloved father and husband slipped into the arms of our Lord and saviour at 7:00 am on Sunday, January 25th, 2009. He was surrounded by love as he was comforted by his ever loving sons, Bill (Gilles), Robert (Tammy), Brent (Sandy) and the love of his life, his wife Gail. Dad was especially close to his granddaughters Melissa and Nicole and to his young grandsons Owen and Braedan and time spent with them was very important to him. He was predeceased by his father Oswald, mother Jesse, and sisters Sharon, Rhonda, Marilyn and Luanne. He leaves on this earth his much loved brothers Jim (Dawn) and Shane, sisters Linda (Everett), Bonnie (Bev) and Shanna (Tom), as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad was a highly skilled butcher who combined trade skill with a sense of friendly customer interaction, which he always enjoyed. His favourite hobbies included fishing, gardening and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. Our family offers heartfelt thanks to the friends and family who have supported us and Dad during this difficult journey. The exceptional staff at H.D.H. was amazing in their level of care and support. They helped Dad, and us, to be as comfortable as possible. We love you always. “Drop the question of what tomorrow may bring, and instead accept each day that fate allows“. (Horace) Family and friends will be received at the J.H.
