Ethel Luella Fontaine, 78, Grand Forks, North Dakota, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks on Tuesday, June 21, 2005. Ethel was born on August 18th, 1926, to Carl Oscar & Carrie (Nelson) Anderson in Grand Forks. Ethel graduated from Grand Forks Central High School where she lettered in softball. Ethel married Howard Fontaine on May 12, 1948. They enjoyed a strong and loving 40 year marriage until Howard's death in 1988. She was employed by Red River National Bank, First Bank of East Grand Forks, and the University of North Dakota. Ethel was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Ethel is survived by her sons Thomas (Carol) Fontaine and Jeffrey (Susan) Fontaine and granddaughters Alyssa & Julia Fontaine all of Woodbury MN; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends and acquaintances. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents, infant son Gregory, brother Harold, sisters Mildred (Logston) and Esther (Scott). The family wishes to offer special thanks to Bev Bleken, Judy Haney, Fran Koches and other supportive friends as well as Dr. Walsh, Altru Cancer Center, and Valley Eldercare staff for their thoughtful care. Services: 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2005 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 South 9th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be one hour prior to the service in the church.
