Callender, Velma Aucoin A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she passed away at her home in Denham Springs at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005, after a long battle with cancer. She was 84. She was a very strong woman who endured tremendous pain, never giving up until the very end. She will be greatly missed by many. She was a longtime resident of Denham Springs and a native of Baton Rouge. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, June 20. Visitation at the funeral home chapel from 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John A. Callender Sr.; daughter, Emily Callender-Efferson and her husband, Tommy, Baton Rouge; son, John A. Callender Jr. and his wife, Wendy, Denham Springs; daughter, Mary Lindsey and her husband, Larry, Madisonville; grandchildren, Keri Callender Edwards and her husband, Phillip, Beau Callender, John Callender III, Alana Depolite, Michele Richissin, Kim Glover, Gina Dauterive and Trey Lindsey; and a sister, Jeanette Aucoin Sellers, French Settlement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwina and Walter Aucoin; a daughter, Elizabeth "Betty Denna-Dino" Callender; and five brothers, Keller, Earl, W.T., Nerie and Guy Aucoin. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gerald Miletello and staff and to Hospice of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Beau Callender, Phillip Edwards, Travis Gilmore, Jeremy Gilmore, Scott Hymel and Johnny Russell. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Michael, Nicholas Edwards and John Callender III. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
