Marie M. AXELSEN

GORHAM - Marie M. Lestage, 81, of Ossipee Trail, died Tuesday, Dec. 27 after a long illness. She was born in Westbrook, Feb. 28, 1924, a daughter of Jens and Marie (Smith) Axelsen. She attended Westbrook schools and worked for eight years as a sorter for S.D. Warren. Marie was also a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerard who died in 1999; plus a brother, John Axelsen. Survivors include two daughters, Marie A. Mercier of Waterboro and Gloria J. Sukeforth of Gorham; two sons, Lawrence J. Lestage of Kennebunk and John L. Lestage of Bridgton; a sister, Pearl Conway of Windham; six grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. An hour of visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 31 at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham, from 10-11 a.m. A service will follow at the chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Westbrook.
