Theonie BARRETTE

MARLBOROUGH, MA - Sister Mary Jacqueline Rita, Theonie Barrette, a Sister of St. Anne, died at the age of 93 years at Marie Esther Health Center on October 29. She was in the 72nd year of religious life. She was the daughter of Ferdinand and Angeline (Dufresne) Barrette of Pawtucket, RI. She completed her elementary education at Our Lady of Consolation and at St. Matthew School in Central Falls, RI, and received her high school diploma from St. Anne Academy in Marlboro. She held a BE degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, RI. She entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Anne in 1931 and pronounced religious vows in 1933. She spent one year at St. Thomas Aquinas School in Montreal before transferring to the United States. Here she taught in several of the schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Anne in Ludlow, Holyoke, Ware, Lynn, Newton, Webster, North Adams, and Marlboro, MA; in Notre Dame School, Central Falls (where she served for 15 years), in Manville, RI; and in Cohoes.Sister is survived by her three sisters, Mrs. Fernande (Barrette) Beaucage and husband George of Warwick, RI; Sisters Mary Ernestine and Mary Veronica of Jesus, both Sisters of St. Anne residing at St. Anne Convent in Marlborough; her brothers, Mr. Oscar E. Barrette of Central Falls, RI, and Mr. Joseph Barrette and wife Mary of North Attleboro, MA; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Yvonne Barrette, of Providence, RI; and Mrs. Claire Zoglio, wife of deceased Ferdinand Barrette of Providence, RI.She will be waked at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road, Marlborough, on Tuesday, November 1, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:30.The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 2, in the convent chapel at 10 a.m.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.SFCFH.com), 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough.A memorial contribution may be made to the Sisters of St. Anne Retirement Fund or to a charity of your choice.
