Ernest E. BERARD

Ernest E. Berard, 89, of Lisbon, ND, died July 28, 2005 at the ND Veterans Home - Lisbon. Ernest was born April 9, 1916 in Olga, ND, the son of Eugene and Lea (Charbonneau) Berard. He attended Carlisle Country school - rural Bathgate, ND. Ernie farmed with his father near Bathgate. In 1936 he worked for the CCC for six months. He married Lucille De Maine in 1940. She died in 1941. In 1943 Ernie married Lorraine Bertrand. She died in 1953. He entered the Army in 1945. He trained in Texas. He guarded war prisoners in El Reno, OK. He served for 18 months. After the service he farmed until 1959. He lived in Neche, ND, working construction in the area. In 1972 he married Yvonne Davis. They lived in Cavalier. He retired in 1977. October 8, 1997 he entered the ND Veterans Home. He was devoted to three families. He was the father, mother, farmer, gardener, canner, cook and housekeeper. He was a carpenter, plumber, and electrician. He was a construction worker who helped build houses, elevators, schools, churches and missile sites. He loved to joke and sing and most of all play bingo. He was a loving father and friend. He was a member of the Catholic Church in Bathgate, Neche and Cavalier. Ernest is survived by sons, Emil (Donna) of Dickinson, ND, Larry (Karen), Surrey, ND; daughters, Arlene (Gerald) Fiedler, Minot, ND, Charlotte Chounard of Pharr, TX, Marlene (Ralph) Cannon, Pharr, TX, Stephanie Sailer, Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Percy of Yuba City, CA; sister, Jeanette DeMars of Cavalier, ND. Preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Arthur and two sisters, Isabelle and Leona. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials for the ND Veterans Home. Funeral Service, Monday, August 1st at 1:00 p.m., ND Veterans Home - Lisbon. Visitation One hour before the service at the ND Veterans Home - Lisbon.
