ST. MARTINVILLE — Services for Darcies Louis “Mr. B.” Bernard Sr., 88, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Mullalay officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.Visiting hours wil be observed Saturday from 7 a.m. until the time of service with a rosary being recited at 8:30 a.m. at the church.A lifelong resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Bernard died Wednesday, at Iberia Medical Center following a brief illness.Mr. Bernard was a member of American Legion and a World War II veteran.He is survived by his five sons, Cornel Bernard, David Bernard of St. Martinville, Darcies Louis Bernard Jr. of Redwood City, Calif., Ronald Bernard of Los Angeles and Curtis Bernard Sr. of San Francisco; six daughters, Carla Bernard, Jeanne Jackson, Alta Nelson, Diane Fontenette of St. Martinville, Mary Carolyn Bernard and Sybil Bernard of Lafayette; a sister, Theresa Harleaux of New Orleans; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.Mr. Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle Chenier; parents, Louis Bernard and Clothilde Rochon; a brother, Frank Bernard; a sister, Felicia Derouen; two grandchildren, David Bernard Jr. and Damien Bernard; and a daughter-in-law, Corlis Bernard.Pallbearers will be friends and family members.Golden Meadows Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of the arrangements.
