Oliver Paul BERNARD

Oliver "Ollie" Paul Bernard, 55, of Dean Brook Drive, died on Saturday, September 17, 2005 in Norwich, Conn., after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 13, 1949 in Stratford, a son of the late Joseph C. and Flora Louise (Verge) Bernard, he was a lifelong resident of the Stratford and Groveton area. He was a graduate of Stratford High School, class of 1969. Before he was unable to work due to his illness, he worked for Groveton Paper Board Company. Ollie was a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Groveton. He loved fishing, playing poker with family and friends, slot machines, scratch tickets and horseshoes. He also enjoyed watching Western movies. He is survived by his five daughters, Karen and her husband Mike Ravagno of Manchester, Melissa and her husband Ryan Collins of Groveton, Tricia Bernard of Groveton, Amanda Bernard and Olivia Bernard of Vermont; one granddaughter; nine siblings, Priscilla Bernard, Rosalie Hartlan and Beatrice Haynes, all of North Stratford, Joe Bernard of Perth Andover, Quebec, Alfred Bernard of North Carolina, Armand Bernard of Stratford, Vivian Schneider of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jack Bernard and Leon Bernard, both of Groveton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Bernard, in December, 2000. Calling hours were held on Tuesday afternoon and evening, September 20 at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton with the Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery on Old Mill Road in Stratford.
