Lola Roy -- Kankakee -- Visitation for Lola M. Roy, 94, of Kankakee, will be from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She died Monday (Oct. 31, 2005) at Casey Care Center in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Roy assisted her husband in the operation of Roy's Furniture Store for 40 years. She was a former employee of Montgomery Ward prior to her marriage and had worked at Hauseman's Paint Store. She was born Aug. 11, 1911, in Essex, the daughter of Frank and Cora Underwood Bertrand. Her husband, Frederic J. Roy, whom she married Feb. 12, 1938 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kankakee, died Dec. 15, 1990. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a volunteer at St. Mary's Gift Shop for 15 years. She accumulated 7,684 volunteer hours at St. Mary's. She was a member of the Tuesday Book Review, the Kankakee Historical Society, two bridge clubs and the Elks Golf Club. She played saxophone in various dance bands in the area and enjoyed golfing. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard Halbin of Bluford; one sister and brother-in-law, Mable and Francis Michaels of Bradley; four grandchildren, Frederick (Virginia) Halbin, Timothy (Chelsea) Halbin, Jeffrey (Brenda) Halbin, Kathleen Segretario; 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are her parents and one brother, Lyle Bertrand.
