MADISON -- The family of Adelphine Emily "Millie" Boudreau McHenry gives thanks for her 103 years of life. Millie passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005. She was a creative and strong woman, with a special love of nature.Born Jan. 6, 1902, in Anson, she was the second of five children born to Alfred Boudreau and Georgia Ferland Boudreau.Millie worked in a textile mill in Madison, and was president of the local union for a time.She was married for 51 years to Ignatius "Red" McHenry who passed away in 1978. The couple had two sons.In the 1940s, the family moved to a farm in Emden.Millie spent countless hours tending to the beautiful gardens she created around the home. She enjoyed feeding and watching the many varieties of birds who visited the home; especially the annually-returning hummingbirds. She also occupied her time with sewing and crocheting and various art projects including painting, paper mache, wood carving, sculpting and stained glass.In the 1980s Millie traveled to Hawaii, Guam and Saipan, visiting a friend of the family. In 2002 at the age of 98, Millie, a lifelong Roman Catholic, made the trip of her lifetime. She went on a pilgrimage to Rome to celebrate the Vatican's Silver Jubilee.Millie was a longtime resident of Maine, living both in Emden and Madison until 2002, where she enjoyed the company of her sisters, Blanche Gagne and Georgia Peters. All three were parishioners of Saint Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Madison.She came to North Carolina in 2002 at the age of 100.Surviving are her two sons, Kenneth McHenry of Williamsville, N.Y., Raymond McHenry and wife, Constance, of Cary, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.Millie attributed her longevity to her active lifestyle, and vegetarian diet and taking things in stride.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Sebastian Church in Madison.
