KINGSTON - Albert E. Briand, 79, died yesterday at the Senior Residential Care in Kingston. He was the husband of Dorothy (Lynch) Briand for 58 years. Born in Randolph, Mr. Briand previously lived in Holbrook for 35 years and in Buzzards Bay for 20 years. He moved to Kingston in 2004. He was a sergeant in the Holbrook Police Department for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He also worked as a carpenter. Prior to his law enforcement service, Mr. Briand served in the Navy Seabees during World War II, where he was attached to the 148th Naval Construction Battalion. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal. Mr. Briand was a member of American Legion Post 137 and P.F.C. Paul J. Surrette V.F.W. Post 9813, both in Holbrook; the Lions Club in Bourne and the Norfolk County Prosecutors Association. He also served as assistant treasurer of the Bourne Senior Citizens and volunteered at the Bourne Food Pantry. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Buzzards Bay, and enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, photography, and spending time with his family and friends. Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, Dennis Briand of West Dennis, Albert E. Briand Jr. of Norton and Robert Briand of Westfield; two daughters, Annette Fuller of Duxbury and Pamela Pike of Marshfield; two sisters, Shirley Maloof of Nashua, N.H., and Geraldine Peterson of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Stott, Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham. A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret's Church, Main Street, Buzzards Bay. Burial is in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
