Raymond J. BRIERE

PELHAM -- Raymond J. Briere, 87, of Pelham and formerly of Dracut, who was a retired machinist and a World War II veteran, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10, at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence. He was the husband of Dorothy (Brunelle) Briere, who died Nov. 30, 2000.He was born in Dracut, Aug. 4, 1918, son of the late Joseph and Louise (Carignan) Briere. He received his education in the Dracut school system.A veteran of World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines.Before retiring, Mr. Briere was a machinist at Standard-Thompson Manufacturing Co., in Waltham for more than 25 years.Mr. Briere was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Pelham.An avid golfer, he was a former member of Long Meadow Golf Club. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Mottolo of North Reading, Mass.; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Marion Briere of North Richland Hills, Texas; a granddaughter, Lara Mottolo of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandsons and their wives, Anthony and Mary Mottolo of Wilmington, Mass. and Joseph M. and Stefani Briere of Ballwin, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Peter A. Mottolo and Amber E. Briere; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Fred Gilbride of Tyngsboro; and several nieces and nephews. Published in the Lowell Sun on 12/13/2005.
