Catherine Dorrie BROWN

CLAREMONT - Catherine Dorrie Desveaux, 83 of Claremont, CA, died early Tuesday morning, Nov. 8, 2005 at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland. Dorrie was born April 12, 1922 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was the eighth of nine children of Edward and Catherine Brown and the loving sister of Kathleen Brown, Alice (Ethel) Helpard, Edward (Douglas) Brown, Margaret Ward, George Brown, Jean Howell, Johnny Brown and Leo Brown, all of Nova Scotia and all deceased. After the death of her parents, when she was very young, Dorrie's eldest sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Raymond Helpard, raised her, establishing a bond that remained throughout their lives and that of their children. In 1949, Dorrie moved to Toronto and met Hubert James (Jim) Desveaux. They were married in 1950. While in Toronto, she pursued a career as a transfer officer fot the National Trust Company of Canada. Dorrie and Jim had two children, James Alexander of Washington. DC and Suzanne Elizabeth of Fontana, CA. Dorrie and her family moved to the United States in 1965, first settling in Upland, and then, in 1972, Claremont. Dorrie remained a devout Catholic and a member of O ur Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Claremont. She was also a longstanding member of the Daughters of The British Empire. Her loving husband, Jim, predeceased her in 1995. In her later years, Dorrie became something of a Norman Rockwell neighbor, a cheerful and helpful presence to nearly everyone in her Claremont neighborhood. She is survived by her loving children, James and Suzanne, and the grandson on whom she showered great affection, Jeffrey Allen Rimpau. A Memorial Mass will be he ld in her honor and memory at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Claremont on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005 at 10 a.m. Private committal will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Heart Association. Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona is in charge of arrangements.
