Lorraine D. CHARRON

WESTBROOK - Lorraine D. French, 79, of Westbrook, died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005 at Springbrook Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was born on Aug. 14, 1926 in Brunswick, a daughter of Wilfred and Yvonne (Tetu) Charron, and attended St. John's Elementary School and Brunswick High School. Lorraine married William A. French in 1950, and they made their home in South Portland for 45 years. He predeceased her in 2001. From 1969 to 1983 Lorraine worked as an Avon Lady in South Portland. She was a member of the Sunset Park Women's Club, and was a 20-plus-year member of the Big 20 Women's Bowling League. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in South Portland. Lorraine was known for her superb cooking, always had a strawberry-rhubarb pie to welcome new neighbors, and had the best recipe for perfectly rare roast beef. In 1990, Lorraine and her husband Bill made their lifelong dream come true and traveled out west. She was not afraid to speak her mind if need be, and had many lifelong friends in Sunset Park. Lorraine is survived by two daughters, Michele M. Cloutier and her husband Patrick, and Kathleen Durkee and her husband Tyler, all of Standish; two sons, Terrence F. P. French and Sandra Kelley of Byron, Ill., and Adam L. French of Westbrook; a sister, Cecile Gordon and her husband James of Crystal Lake, IL; and was Meme to five grandchildren, Danielle Cloutier of Charlotte, N.C., Tara Cloutier of South Portland, Patrick and Christopher French of Byron, Ill., and Spencer Durkee of Standish. Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29 at the chapel, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, 611 Main St., South Portland. Interment will be at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery, Augusta.
