Gibson CORMIER

Gibson "Blackie" Cormier, Sr., 79, of Lake Charles died at 5:30PM Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in a local hospital. Mr. Gibson was a lifetime resident of Lake Charles. He was a veteran of World War II serving the United States Navy aboard the USS Gregory and the USS Wadleigh. He served in the battles of Okinawa and Iwogima. Mr. Cormier retired with the Lake Charles Fire Department after twenty-seven years of service. He had a true passion for hunting and fishing and for thirty-five years was a duck-hunting guide for Savanne Nouvelle Hunting Club, Oak Grove Hunting Club and a number of other clubs. For fun, Mr. Cormier prided himself in making home made sausage and gardening fruits and vegetables. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty one years, Letha Gaspard Cormier of Lake Charles; six sons, Randy Cormier and wife, Kathy of Lake Charles, Kermit Cormier and wife, Yvonne of Lafayette, LA, Gibson Cormier, Jr. of Burleson, TX, Gordon Cormier and wife, Lucille of Lake Charles, Neal Cormier and wife, Lena of Lake Charles and Chris Cormier and wife, Karen of Kopperl, TX; ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter. His parents, Alsa Cormier and Eula Derouen Cormier; a brother, Cleveland Cormier and a grandson, Jason Cormier, precede him in death. Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM today, February 26, 2005 from Christ the King Catholic Church. Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation today will be from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
