WILLIAM E. COURCY WINOOSKI — William Edmund “Ed“ Courcy, 79, went to be with his “Darling“ Patricia on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005. He was born in Burlington, on Feb. 16, 1926, the only child of the late Edward and Minnie (Smart) Courcy. He attended schools in Burlington and completed his education while in the United States Navy. Ed served in the Navy from 194346 when he was honorably discharged. The U.S. Army then drafted him where he served until 1952. Following his discharge from the Army, Ed again served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Guards. On Nov. 27, 1945, he married his sweetheart, Patricia F. Leblanc, who predeceased him in March 2002. Together they raised three children. Ed was employed by IBM for many years. Following his retirement, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family. Ed enjoyed woodworking in his spare time and loved a good game of cribbage - never giving the novice player a break. His greatest pleasure was helping others, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He always had a smile and loved sharing stories about his years in the Navy. Dad never complained, not even when the pain of arthritis was keeping him down. He was kind, caring, and full of love. His sense of humor carried him through even his last day. He will be dearly missed by his children, Terence Courcy and his wife, Jann Hatin of Sarasota, Fla., Ann Marie Cookson of South Burlington, and Brian Courcy and his fiancée, Kelly Goodell of Milton; six grandchildren, Cory and Keith Cookson, Adam, Kathryn and Marc Courcy and Sheri Hill, and four greatgrandchildren. Ed's family would like to thank the staff of The Arbors for the wonderful care he received during his stay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Interment will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Colchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the charity of your choice in Ed's name or to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski, Vt. 05404.
