Alvine CYR

Alvine Cyr Gahagan, 95, of Bedford, N.H., died Dec. 13, 2005, at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a period of declining health.Mrs. Gahagan was born Nov. 21, 1910, in Edmonton, Alberta, the daughter of Vital and Felicite (Bernier) Cyr. She graduated in 1932 from Edmonton General Hospital, and had been a public health nurse in Alberta, Canada, a VNA nurse in East Chicago, Ind., and president of Cerebral Palsy of Indiana. Before her retirement, she was a supervisor at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown. She was acclaimed as a famous public health nurse in Canada, writing her autobiography, “Yes, Father,” a collector’s book. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Bedford, and a member of Woman’s Guild. A member of both Cyr Association and Bernier Family Association, she was known as a caring humanitarian, a genealogist and an organic gardener.She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Porter Gahagan, in 1998.The family includes one daughter, Yvonne Gahagan Cyr Bresnahan of Bedford; two grandsons, Brian Bresnahan of Bedford, and Sean Bresnahan of Deerfield; two granddaughters, Monique Bresnahan Smith of Auburn, Ga., and Renee Bresnahan Sullivan of Flowery Branch, Ga.; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Cyr Guenette of British Columbia, and many cousins in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and New Brunswick. She was predeceased by a brother, Leo Cyr, and a sister, Laura Cyr Armstrong. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Dec. 19 in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Bedford. Entombment will be in Mt.Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Manchester.Memorial donations may be made to the Pediatric Department at Catholic Medical Center, 100 McGregor St., Manchester, NH 03102, or to the FrancoAmerican Center, 52 Concord St., Manchester, NH 03101.The J.N.
