Rita DANIS

CHICOPEE - Rita (Danis) Roy, 80, of Chicopee, was safely called home on Thursday, December 22 at her home, with her loving children at her side. A native of Chicopee, she was born on October 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Oliver and Amanda (Fountain) Danis, and had been raised in Southampton. She came to live in Chicopee 60 years ago and was a communicant of Holy Name Church. A resident of the McKinley House in Chicopee for the past 18 years, Rita was very active in community affairs at the residence and was the recipient of the Presidents Volunteer Service Award for her work with the other residents. Employed by the Chicopee Public School System, she served as a cafeteria worker for more than 20 years before retiring in 1989. She was the wife of the late Roland W. Roy who died in 1984. Rita is survived by her children, James R. Roy and his wife Paula of Feeding Hills, Beverly Mueller and her husband Mark of Belchertown, and Cynthia Cienciwa and her husband Frederick of Palmer; a sister, Laurette Kendra of Chicopee. Her retirement afforded her the opportunity to spend much time with her 10 grandchildren, Bryan, Jenna and Elise Roy, Tim, Alison, Katie and Andrew Cienciwa, and Bill, Heidi and Matthew Mueller, and her great-grandson Hunter Cienciwa, all of whom were a great source of pride and joy and whom she loved dearly. The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee followed by a Mass in Holy Name Church at 10. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
