V. David DEMAREST, Jr. Died peacefully at home on October 24, 2005, after a long illness. Born July 26, 1924 in Hackensack, NJ, he attended Union College in New York State, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. David served during WWII in the US Navy, honorably discharged in May of 1946. In 1960 he moved to the Seattle area with his first wife, Barbara S. Demarest, and their two sons. In 1969, he married Peggy Hill Richardson, mother of three young children. David was employed by Olin Aluminum during his early years in Seattle. In 1969 he founded Demarest Associates, Inc. a successful manufacturing representative business that he owned until retiring in late 1992. As a Seattle resident, David spent many years as an active outdoorsman and member of the Washington Fly Fishing Club, Sahalie Ski Club, the College Club, and Sand Point Country Club. Family ski, backpacking, camping, and fishing trips were frequent. Retirement allowed David and Peggy to pursue their shared love of travel, golf, tennis, and a second home in Palm Desert, CA. David is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy. Surviving are his son, David Demarest and wife, Sally, of Monroe; son Steve Demarest and wife, Debbie, of Leavenworth; step-daughter Penny Jones of Federal Way; step-daughter Lori Davies and husband, Tom of Seattle; and step-son Rich Richardson and wife, Stephanie, of Seattle; eleven grandchildren, Katie, Brian, and William Demarest; Makenzie, Ariel, and Cassie Jones; James, Katie and Cliff Davies; Claire and Ella Richardson; sister Jean Messimer of Boulder, Colorado; nephew Pete Messimer of Boulder, Colorado; and niece Mollie Messimer of Lexington, Virginia. A Celebration of David's Life will be held November 6th at 3:00 p.m. at Laurelhurst Community Center, 4554 NE 41st Street in Seattle. Memorials may be made to the American Stroke Association or the American Cancer Society. Published in print on 10/30/2005.
