Veronica “Verona” H. Poirier, 64, of Colfax passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.Veronica was born on January 24, 1941, in Boyd, Wis., to Henry and Verona (Wagner) Derks. She married Ronald Poirier on October 29, 1960, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Bloomer. She loved being a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She treasured her faith, being a country wife, her children, grandchildren and family. She also loved wild flowers, meteor showers, the first big snow flake of fall, a lonely whippoorwill call, jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching her grandchildren’s activities and family gatherings.She is survived by her husband, Ronald Poirier of Colfax; children, Dean, Keith (Sheila), Steve, Jim (Staci), Mark (Sheryl), Ann (Brian) Mitchell and Amy (fiancé, Chris Leavens) Poirier; grandchildren, Ryan, Corey, Jamie, Kenadi, Jeremy, Justin, Janessa, Cortney, Jordan, Shawn, Ashley, Alexander, Brandon, Katherine, Benjamin and Gabriel; stepmother, Ethel Derks; siblings, Rose Derks, Mary Kay Riley, Kathryn (Neil) Haselwander, Helen (Luke) Bowe, Ted (Linda) Derks, John (Dale) Derks, Joyce (Bob) Rogalski, George (Joanne) Derks and Delores Connor.She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Norman and James Derks; granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Poirier; brother-in-law, Art Connor.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2005, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Cooks Valley, with Father William Felix officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2005, at the Schriver Funeral Chapel, Bloomer, and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. There will be a 4 p.m. Christian Mothers rosary followed by an 8 p.m. Christian wake service at the funeral chapel on Friday.
