George L. Desautels 70, of Indianapolis died Friday, September 16, 2005 following an eight month battle with pancreatic cancer. An Indianapolis native, he was the son of the late Leon and Josephine Desautels. A Cathedral High School graduate, he attended the University of Notre Dame. His business career spanned over 45 years and included employment with Chrysler Motors and Indiana Gear Works in Indianapolis. Subsequently he held an executive position with Progress Laundry before joining the George O. Desautels Company in a sales capacity. Later in his career, he managed several USA storage facilities before retiring in 2003. Married to Helen Logan in 1957, he is the father of five children: Eileen Padro of Columbus, OH; Julianne Gallagher of Chicago, IL; Michele Knutson of Indianapolis; Logan Desautels of Dayton, OH; and JoEllen Desautels of Chicago, IL, and has 13 grandchildren. Desautels was a former member of St. Joan of Arc and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic parishes, and a current member of St. Pius X. Other involvement included membership in the Notre Dame Club of Indianapolis. Calling will be on Monday, September 19th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Leppert Life Story Funeral Home – Nora Chapel located at 740 E. 86th St. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive. Other survivors include: brothers, Joseph S. Desautels of St. Petersburg, FL; Robert E. Desautels of Indianapolis; and sisters, Sr. Kathleen Desautels, S.P., Chicago, IL; and Marianne Desautels Mahaffey of St. Petersburg, FL.
