CHICOPEE - Albert J. DesRosiers, Sr., age 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at a local nursing home. He was born on July 8, 1912 in Chicopee, and has been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Assumption School and Cathedral High School, and was a communicant of the Holy Name of Jesus Church. Albert worked for 31 years as a fireman on the Chicopee Fire Dept., retiring in 1971. Albert worked as a volunteer for 13 years at Lorraine's Soup Kitchen, and as a volunteer for 15 years for Kate's Kitchen in Holyoke. He was also a 15 year volunteer at the Red Cross. Albert also retired from the R.S.V.P. Senior Program, and was a member of the over 60's Club, and Chicopee Retiree's Club, and was a member of the Police and Firemens' Retirement Association. He was was in the Navy from 1930-1934, and served as a seaman 1st Class. He leaves his wife, Alice M. (Moriarty) DesRosiers; 2 sons, James DesRosiers and his wife, Donna of Eastham, MA, and Albert J. and his wife, Marilyn of Charles, FL; a daughter, Susan Moran and her husband, Glenn of Malvern, PA; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. A visitation period will be held Monday, Jan. 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St., Chicopee. The funeral will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church on Tuesday, Jan. 3rd at 10:00 a.m., with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Albert's memory to the Holy Name of Jesus School or Church Memorial Fund, 33 South St., Chicopee, MA 01013. Published in The Republican on 12/31/2005.
