AUGUSTA -- Donald Dostie, 76, of Franklin Street died on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at his home following a long illness, with his family at his side.He was born in Hartford, Conn., on Aug. 7, 1929, the son of Heliodore "Leo" and Diana (LeClair) Dostie.He was a loving husband and a caring father and grandfather. His love of camping, helping his family, woodworking, tole painting and many ingenious methods of problem-solving will be missed by all who knew and loved him.A communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Mr. Dostie was a member of Abnaki Council 334, 3rd Degree, Knights of Columbus, Abnaki Assembly 346, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Le Club Calumet, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Cushnoc Senior Citizens.He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.He had been employed at Bates Manufacturing Co., Edwards Division, for more than 31 years and retired because of a disability.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lucille J. (Poulin) Dostie of Augusta; two sons, Richard Dostie and his wife, Nancy, of Monmouth and Patrick Dostie and his wife, Sheryl, of Clinton, N.Y.; a daughter, Diana Dostie Haskell and her husband, Steven, of East Sullivan; 10 grandchildren, Sara, Eric, Nathan, Luke, Ryan, Jason, Brandon, Kristyn, Aaron and Kaitlyn; two step-grandchildren, Carrie and Daniel; four step great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Ashley, Caleb and Benjamin; two aunts, Alfredine Quirion and Rose Eva Dostie, both of Augusta; an uncle, Gerard Dostie of Augusta; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Friends may visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where members of Abnaki Assembly 346, 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus, Color Corps, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to make ready for the posting of the guard. Members of Le Club Calumet are asked to meet at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday for a prayer service. Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks are asked to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday for an Elks service, and members of Abnaki Council 334, 3rd Degree, Knights of Columbus, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to offer a prayer service.A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
