WASHINGTON -- Anna E. (Downs) Dalphond, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Concord. She was born in Tilton and lived in Center Barnstead and Hillsboro before moving to Washington in 1948. The daughter of the late John and Ethel (Smith) Downs, she was also predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Dalphond Jr., who died in 1994; and sons, Howard Dalphond, who died in 1969, and Robert Dalphond, who died in 2003. She attended school in Gilmanton, worked for Globe Manufacturing in Pittsfield and was a rural route mail carrier from 1969 until her retirement in 1997. She was a charter member and past president of Washington Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Grafton Sullivan County Forest Fire Warden's Association. She enjoyed embroidery work. She collected salt and pepper shakers and loved word search puzzles. She is survived by one son, John Dalphond of Antrim; seven daughters, Marcia Goodspeed of Washington, Mary Ann Wright of Lempster, Linda Johnson of Deering, Jane Emperor of Hillsboro, Beverly Kennett of Concord, Sandra Purington of Verona, Va., and Robin Ward of Hillsboro; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 32 School St., Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Center Cemetery in Washington. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington Fire Department, P.O. Box 403, Washington 03280.
