NEW BEDFORD -- Josephine (Duarte) Gravelle, 85, of New Bedford died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of Joseph Gravelle. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Spencer) Duarte, she lived in the city most of her life. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Mrs. Gravelle enjoyed bingo, going to Foxwoods and writing children's poetry. She was a great mother, wife and friend. Survivors include four sons, Gary Gravelle, Steven Gravelle, Arthur Gravelle and Dennis Gravelle, all of New Bedford; six daughters, Annette LaChance of Bridgewater, Geraldine Gravelle and Vanessa Evans, both of Attleboro, Brenda DoCarmo of Florida, Michelle Alexander of Providence and Sandra Brown of Rhode Island; two sisters, Antonia Soares of Colorado and Elizabeth Duarte of New Bedford; several sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Camille and Edouarde Gravelle. Her funeral will be at 8 a.m. Saturday from Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
