RONAN - Gloria Gail Dumontier Smith, 67, was lovingly received in the arms of her Lord and Savior early Friday morning, Oct. 14, 2005 in Missoula.An enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe, Gail was born Oct. 6, 1938, in St. Ignatius to Harold and Louise (McDonald) Dumontier. Raised and educated in St. Ignatius, she attended St. Ignatius Public Schools before going to Flandreau Indian School.In fact, her life was dedicated to helping children whether it was her own family or kids just needing a mentor. Gail went on to receive her AA in early childhood development from Weber State and worked with kids for over 25 years at Headstart (15 years), at Kicking Horse Job Corps and Second Circle. She loved every minute of it. She also enjoyed dancing, gossiping and stock car races in her earlier years. Later, she enjoyed collecting nick-nacks, bears and wind chimes and "taking" the occasional picture. However, her life truly revolved around her children, grandchildren, family and kids.She was preceded in death by her mother and father, grandson Micah Hoskinson, a niece Paullette O'Neill-Courville and a nephew Joey Dumontier, as well as many other family members from both the Dumontier and McDonald families.Survivors include her children Bret Lynn (Sissy) Roske of El Paso, Texas, Chazz (Kristy) Smith of Missoula, Lou Anne (Jon) Hoskinson of Evaro; foster son Ronnie Davis of Cut Bank; grandchildren Launita Lynn "Nita" Dumont of Dublin Gulch, Brittney, Sierra and Dakota Roske of El Paso, Daron Leigh Whitedirt, James and Joshua Hoskinson, all of Evaro and Christian Smith of Missoula; great-grandchildren Shonko and Jedi; brothers Reg "Speed" (Mert) Dumontier of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Bud Dumontier of Ronan and Jim Dumontier of St. Ignatius; sisters Sally Mitchell of St. Ignatius, Deedo Dumontier of St. Ignatius and Debby (Wayne Colman) Courville of Pablo, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.A wake began Friday evening at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius, with a prayer service being held Sunday evening at 8 p.m. in the Longhouse. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Longhouse, with Pastor Lee Wraith. Interment will follow in Snyelmn Sntmtmne.Pallbearers are Alvin Old Coyote, Brian Dumontier, Damon Mitchell, Jimmy Ray O'Niell, Justin Dumontier, Jason Courville, Chris Courville and Chris Dumontier. Honorary bearers are Susie CrookedArm, Colleen Couture, Josephine LaDue and Alice SmallSalmon. The eulogy will be by Greg Dumontier and Kenny Dumontier, and family will be providing the music.
