JOSEPH (JOE) DUPLANTIS Aug. 31, 1911 - Oct. 29, 2005 For more funeral information, please see our Website at www.broussardsmortuary.com Published in the Houston Chronicle on 11/2/2005. --Internement at Forest Park Lawndale Houston, TX 77001 -- Joseph (Joe) Duplantis, 94 years young, went to his heavenly home on October 29, 2005. Joe was born on August 31, 1911 in Abbeville, Louisiana to Florence and Felix Duplantis. He was the third child of nine children. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; son, Joel Duplantis; and eight siblings. The family moved to Houston in the early 1920's where Joe attended school and worked. He went to work when he was seventeen at what was then Sinclair Refinery which is now BP. He was an electrician and has been retired since 1974. Joe was a staff Sergeant in the Marine Corp during World War II and served on Iwo Jima. He was a true patriot who loved his country. He was also a man of varied interests and many talents, including reading, golfing and making people laugh with his many colorful stories. He is survived by only one sister, Betty Landry of Beaumont; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was a resident of Collier Park Assisted Living Facility in Beaumont, but was evacuated to Tyler because of Hurricane Rita. A committal will be 2:00 P. M. Friday, November 4, 2005 at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston under the direction of Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. Many thanks to the staff at Collier Park who showed Joe such love and compassion during his stay there. A special thank you goes to Billie Yancey who was Joe's guardian angel during his final journey home.
