WATERVILLE -- August "Gus" Fortin, 77, of Winslow died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Thayer Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. Born April 3, 1928, the son of August Fortin Sr. and Lumina (Chamberlain) Fortin, August attended Waterville schools. He was a founding member of the Keyes Credit Union, now KSW Credit Union. He was manager and trustee for the credit union for 36 years. During his career with the credit union, he was involved with the Maine Credit Union league. Upon retiring, Gus enjoyed gardening. He especially enjoyed driving his tractor. He was an avid fan of the Roadrunner cartoon. Gus was also a member of the Winslow VFW.Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Gail Nixon and two brothers, Armande and Fernande Fortin. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa (Daigle) Fortin; two sons, Wayne Fortin and his wife, Loretta, of Oakland, and Dale Fortin and his wife, Mary, of Winslow; one daughter, Karen Denis and her husband, John, of Winslow; eight grandchildren, Justin, Shawn, Chad and Jeremy Fortin, Jacob and Jamie Denis, and Mystie Grant and Robert McDonald; two great-grandchildren, Marcus Denis-Doucette and Emily Fortin. He is also survived by one brother, Donald Fortin of California and one sister, Jean Curtis of California.Family and friends will gather for visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monument Street, Winslow. Burial will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in August's name be made to a charity of one's choice.
